Fills
LAP-BAND surgery adjustments are made periodically after surgery, usually beginning 4-6 weeks after placement of the band. The exact amount of fluid in the band is unique to each individual making it customizable for weight loss.
All adjustments/fills to the band can be made without having to return to surgery by simply inflating or deflating the band. This is done by accessing your port which is located under the skin. This can be performed in the office using ultrasound, or in the hospital using fluoroscopy to locate the port and perform an adjustment, or to verify the placement and conditions of the adjustable gastric band. The adjustment/fill usually takes a few minutes to complete and you will be given dietary instructions for the next couple of days. To get to the “GREEN ZONE” and maintain the best results you will need more than one adjustment/fill after surgery for the band to remain effective.
The “GREEN ZONE” or OPTIMAL fill level
You are losing 1-2 lbs/wk or maintaining weight loss goals.
Able to tolerate most foods
Eating small “normal” meals comfortably
No problems with liquids or reflux
No adverse symptoms
Only a trained medical professional should do your adjustments/fills. Never let a non-medical or untrained clinican adjust your band. NEVER, NEVER attempt this yourself. This could result in irreversable damage to your band and/or your health.
Getting an adjustment/fill does not mean the weight will disappear magically. You are still responsible for your diet and exercise routine.
