General Surgery

General Surgery is a medical specialty involving a general surgeon who has specialized knowledge and has received extensive training in specific surgical procedures, pre-surgical patient consultation, and post-operative management. It can be used for routine procedures in the doctor’s office as well as complicated operations requiring a medical team in the hospital. General surgical procedures are numerous and are applied in different areas of the body. Some of the more common problems treated by a general surgeon are: thyroid tumors, breast tumors, gallbladder disease, colon tumors, appendicitis, and hernias.

Hemorrhoidal Disease

HD (hemorrhoidal disease) is one of the fastest growing diseases in the world. 75% of people in the U.S. will have symptoms of HD at some point in their lifetime but most will not seek treatment until the pain is unbearable. You don’t have to suffer with HD any longer. A pain-free cure for HD is now available with Ultroid. It uses a breakthrough technology to painlessly and permanently eliminate HD without anesthesia or painful cutting, burning or banding. Best of all, it’s done in about ten minutes in your physician’s office. You will feel immediate relief and return to your daily activities right away.

Common causes of HD:

  • Pregnancy & Childbirth
  • Constipation and Diarrhea
  • Prolonged Toilet Sitting
  • Poor Diet
  • Straining

HD is very common but rarely discussed. If you have any spotting on toilet tissue or itching “back there”, or think you might have HD, talk to your doctor about it and see how Ultroid can help you.

Varicose Veins

Do you experience discomfort, swelling & varicose veins?

If so, you may be suffering from superficial venous reflux disease. Approximately 25 million people in the United States suffer from this condition. Traditionally, patients diagnosed with venous reflux would undergo vein stripping surgery. Now, patients can be treated with the VNUS Closure procedure – a minimally invasive and more comfortable alternative to painful vein stripping surgery.

Understanding Venous Reflux Disease
Healthy leg veins contain valves that open and close to assist the return of blood back to the heart. Venous reflux disease develops when the valves that keep blood flowing out of the legs and back to the heart become damaged or diseased. As a result, vein valves will not close properly, leading to symptoms of:

  • Varicose veins
  • Pain
  • Swollen limbs
  • Leg heaviness and fatigue
  • Skin changes and skin ulcers

The Venous System Anatomy
The venous system is made up of a network of veins, including:

  • Superficial veins – veins located close to the surface of the skin.
  • Deep veins 0 larger veins located deep in the leg
  • Perforator veins – veins that connect the superficial veins to the deep veins

Are You a Candidate?
Many factors contribute to the presence of venous reflux disease, including

  • Age
  • Gender
  • Family History
  • Multiple pregnancies
  • Obesity
  • Standing profession

Using ultrasound to scan your leg(s), your physician will determine if superficial venous reflux is present.

Speak with your physician about determining your candidacy for the Closure procedure.

Experience the VNUS Closure Procedure
The Closure procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. Using ultrasound, your physician will position the Closure catheter into the diseased vein through a small opening in the skin. The tiny catheter powered by radio-frequency (RF) energy delivers heat to the vein wall. As the thermal energy is delivered, the vein wall shrinks and the vein is sealed closed. Once the diseased vein is closed, blood is re-routed to other healthy veins.

Following the procedure, a simply bandage is placed over the insertion site, and additional compression may be provided to aid healing. Your doctor may encourage you to walk, and to refrain from extended standing and strenuous activities for a period of time.

Patients who undergo the Closure procedure typically resume normal activities within a day.

Procedural Highlights
Closure procedural highlights include:

  • Relief of symptoms
  • Outpatient procedure
  • Local or general anesthesia
  • Resume normal activities within 1-2 days
  • Good cosmetic outcome with minimal or no scarring, bruising or swelling

As with any intervention, potential risks and complications exist with the closure procedure. You should consult your physician to further future info.

The closure procedure is intended for endovascular coagulation of blood vessels in patients with superficial venous reflux. It is contraindicated in patients with thrombus in the vein segment to be treated.

Potential complications include, but are not limited to vessel perforation, thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, phlebitis, hematoma, infection, paresthesia and skin burn.
